Project naming[chenj-am for orijin]
The correct name is "Naijá Wikipedia" and not "Nigerian pidgin". The "Nigerian Pidgin" is the name in English. This is not an English Wikipedia and its name should not be written in English language. Please refer to this and several other literatures. Every language has an autonym. The Nigerian pidgin" autonym is naijá. An autonym is the name of a language in the language itself. - @Yuza:T Cells, Thank you for pointing to this. However, I will be rolling back your change so as to conform with the project page. To avoid ambiguity, just like other mainspace, we will stick to just the translated welcome message of the English Wikipedia Welcome to Wikipedia without the language name added. But note that the autonym wasn't used in naming the Yoruba wikipedia. The autonym is Èdè Yorùbá. This applies to some other language Wikipedia. - Other stuffs exist is not a valid reason. If you have a problem with the "Yoruba Wikipedia", start a discussion in that project and propose a "name change". You can initiate the discussion at the community village pump. That being said, we are certainly not going to have a local Wikipedia name written in English language. The general naming convention of a new language Wikipedia is that the name must be written in the language itself and not in English and its interface must be translated into the local language (this is called localization). The "Nigerian pidgin" is the name in English. It is "naijá" in the local language itself. We can't have a local language Wikipedia name written in English. Unless you disagree that "naijá" is the name in the language itself, in which case, you must start a discussion on the project talk page. Do not reverse to its name in English language. It should be in the language itself. I am going to reverse your edit now and keeping @Yuza:MF-Warburg and @Yuza:Minorax in the loop here. Undoing the name back to English language is disruptive. - Please note that Wp/pcm is actually dependent on the interface language of the user (for me it says Nigerianisches Pidgin) and so shouldn't be taken as indicative for what needs to be written on content pages of the wiki. About whether you say "Welcome to Wikipedia" or "Welcome to X-language Wikipedia", that is surely something that can be decided by each wiki and for each page individually. It might make sense to give the language name especially on Incubator, to make it clear that here the space for a certain language begins. --MF-W {a, b} 21:35, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
